スーパーで夕食の材料を選ぶKeikoとRyan。買う順番を相談したあと、棚の小さな値札に気づいたことから、単価の意味、異なる容量を比べる方法、安さと必要量のバランスへ話を広げます。

英文を見ないで聞く

Yes. It shows the cost for a fixed amount, such as one hundred grams.
うん。100グラムのように、決まった量あたりの値段を示すんだ。
So we can compare different package sizes more fairly.
それなら、容量が違う商品も公平に比べられるね。
Exactly. The lowest total price does not always have the lowest unit price.
そのとおり。合計の値段がいちばん安くても、単価までいちばん安いとは限らないよ。
But a huge package is no bargain if we cannot finish it.

〜とは違う
be different from ... は「〜とは違う」を表す基本表現です。例: This plan is different from the old one.（この計画は以前のものとは違います。）
