Japanese voters who cannot visit their polling place on election day may vote earlier.

There, their vote goes directly into a ballot box before election day.

Voters staying elsewhere can request absentee-voting papers from their registered municipality.
別の市区町村に滞在する有権者は、登録地の市区町村へ不在者投票の書類を請求できます。
They use those papers at an election office in the municipality where they are staying.
