Exactly. Matching the patterns helps assign each ring to a calendar year.
そのとおり。パターンを照合すると、それぞれの年輪を暦の年に対応させやすくなるんだ。
Does a narrow ring always mean a dry year?
細い年輪なら、いつも雨の少ない年ってこと？
Not by itself. Temperature, sunlight, competition, and other stress can also affect growth.
それだけでは決められないよ。気温や日光、ほかの木との競争など、別の負担も成長に影響するから。
So each ring is evidence, but the pattern becomes stronger when many trees agree.
じゃあ、年輪一本一本が証拠だけど、多くの木で一致すると、パターンの確かさが増すんだね。
Yes. A forest keeps better notes than any single tree.
うん。一本の木より、森全体のほうが詳しい記録を残してるんだね。
