冠詞の位置

   「 a very beautiful flower 」のように 名詞に修飾語句が付く場合、ふつう冠詞は修飾語句の前に置きますが次のような例外があります。

many の他にも quite, half, twice, such, rather, what などがあります。

Quite a few of them agreed.

( 彼らの多くは賛成した )

After half a mile the path merges onto a road.

( 半マイルで、この小道は道路に交わります。 )

I don't like such a man.

( 私はそんな男は好きではない。 )

   how の他にも however, so, as, too, this, that, what などのように形容詞を修飾する副詞や感嘆詞が用いられる場合、両者の結びつきが強いため、不定冠詞は名詞の直前に置かれます。

I have never seen so good a man.

( 私はそんな善良な男にお目にかかったことがない。 )

He is as honest a man as I have ever known.

( 私の知っている中で、彼は最高に誠実な男だ。 )

What obstinate a man he is！

( なんて頑固な男なんだ彼は。 )

all の他にも both, half, double などがあります。

All the boys were abducted to a far-away unknown country.

( その少年達は皆拉致されて見知らぬ遠い国へ連れて行かれた。 )

He paid double the price.

( 彼は倍額を払った。 )

I spent all the money I had to buy the book.

( 有り金をはたいてその本を買った。 )
